DARD recently held a conference on summarizing crop production in 2014, deploying plans of crop production in 2014-2015 winter-spring season.
As reported at the conference, rice cultivation area of the year was estimated at 56,741ha, down 1,071ha compared to the year 2013. Average yield was about 64.5 kg/ha, an increase of 1.6 kg/ha; rice production was estimated at 365,325 tons, an increase of 1,537 tons compared to 2013. The area was about 20,586ha cassava, cassava yield is estimated at 17.3 tons/ ha, an increase of 3 kg/ha; cassava production was estimated at 356,204 tons, down 22,342 tons from the previous year. The sugar cane area was about 25,494ha, cane yield reached 635 kg / ha; output was estimated at 1.6 million tons, up 113,857 tons from the previous year. Areas of vegetables, beans reached 10,500ha, production was estimated at 71,400 tons, up 1,450 tons over the same period in 2013 … Overall in 2014, crop production has won in both areas of productivity and output; product quality has been gradually improving. However, prices of most agricultural products fell, weak consumption affects the income of farmers, especially rice.
As planned, for the 2014-2015 winter-spring crop season, the province put into production around 26,000ha of rice, striving to yield 64 quintals/ha, output of 166,000 tons. DARD recommended localities in the province continue to accelerate the application of mechanization in rice production from land preparation, sowing, in order to save on production costs, freeing manual labor; focusing on seeds investment, technical solutions, consuming markets. In addition, it’s necessary to closely monitor weather climate, growth and development stage of rice and pest objects to pro-actively prevent and timely eliminate.
