PANO – Deputy Minister of National Defence Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Thanh Cung on November 6th chaired a video conference to review the program “Army joining hands for community’s health” in 71 communes across Vietnam.
Reportedly, forces in and outside the army were involved in this large-scale program which ended on September 30th.
During the two-and-a-half-month long event, nearly 70,000 locals had their health checked up and been given medicines for free. The program also conducted cataract surgeries for 43 patients, presented medical equipment to 100 military-civilian infirmaries and medical stations at commune- and ward- level, offered gifts to 8,200 policy beneficiaries, poor households and those having their health checked, built 6 gratitude houses for policy beneficiaries and promptly treated 11 kids with heart diseases.
Addressing the event, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization Nguyen Van Hung highly spoke of the program’s results and significance, demonstrating army officers’ and troops’ sentiment and responsibility towards people, especially policy beneficiaries and poor ethnic minority groups.
The Ministry awarded 60 outstanding groups and 24 individuals in recognition of their achievements.
Participants also recommended that more practical healthcare activities should be carried out in remote and mountainous areas in response to the program “Army joins hands to build new-style rural areas”.
In his closing speech, General Cung said the program for community’s health should be a regular deed of the army to consolidate people’s confidence in the Party, the State, the Army and local authorities. The general also asked units to further assist locals in socio-economic development, poverty reduction and hunger elimination while fulfilling their mission as the key force in natural disaster prevention and search and rescue.
