(CPV) - Some of 161 Australia Awards scholars will leave Vietnam from early 2015 for their post-graduate studies in Australia. They include 117 recipients of Australia Awards Scholarships; of whom two have disabilities and seven are of ethnic minorities, and 44 recipients of Australia Awards Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships. These Australia Awards recipients are among more than 4,500 Vietnamese students who have received long-term and short-term training opportunities from the Australian Government since the opening of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1973. Many Australia Awards alumni have reached positions of leadership in various fields in different parts of the country. “Australia is proud to be making a significant contribution to the development of Vietnam’s high quality human resources. I strongly believe that these Australia Awards recipients, upon graduation, will support Vietnam’s growth and the deepening of links between Vietnam and Australia,” said Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Hugh Borrowman. Australia Awards, funded by the Australian Government, are prestigious international awards targeting the next generation of global leaders. The awardees will study at a university of their choice in Australia, at the post-graduate level (Masters and PhD) in a diverse range of areas such as gender, disability, human rights, community development, economics, education, construction, environment, agriculture, public health, political science, policy studies, and business management. Through study and research, they develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia. Australia Awards also aims to build Australia’s reputation for excellence in the provision of education and support the internationalization of the Australian higher education and research sectors. According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Bui Van Ga, Vietnamese professionals trained by Australian universities have assisted governmental agencies significantly in various sectors to integrate Vietnam successfully in the international economy, and enabled higher education institutions in Vietnam to reform. The new application rounds will open on February 1st, 2015 for Australia Awards Scholarships, and in April 2015./. |
