Vietnamese, Korean artists to welcome ASEAN-KOREA commemorative summit

(CPV) - Internationally renowned musical groups from Korea and Vietnam will collaborate on December 9th at the Au Co Arts Center (No 8 Huynh Thuc Khang street, Hanoi) to enhance bonds of harmony and friendship between the two countries.

The event, co-organized by the Korea Foundation, a public entity affiliated with the Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Hanoi, is part of activities to welcome the ASEAN-KOREA commemorative summit to be held on December 11th-12th, 2014 in Busan, Korea.

A joint concert will be presented by GongMyoung and Binh Minh (Sunrise) Ensemble of music firmly based in tradition but which is nevertheless innovative and experimental rather than being “conventional”. Audiences are able to see the creativity which enables traditional musical groups to survive in today’s rapidly changing digital and global age.


A seminar to review and explore the past and future of traditional music in the rapidly changing digital and global age will take place on December 10th at the concert hall of the Vietnam Academy of Music.


Korean artists will then solo in Ho Chi Minh city on December 12th at the Ben Thanh Theatre (No 6 Mac Dinh Chi, district 1). Free admission is available by emailing to tranthucuc@karts.ac.kr./.









Performing arts group GongMyoung, formed in 1997, re-interprets classical Korean music in a modern way and is the most inspired drumming collective of Korea today. In particular, it has been praised not only for their innovative musical ideas but also for their refreshing performances.


Formed in 1998, Binh Minh Ensemble traditional instrument players won Gold medals at National competitions. Some of them were honored by the as title “Outstanding artists”. They have also actively contributed to promote Vietnamese traditional music through performances worldwide in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Russia, Korea, Malaysia, Chile, Argentina and Japan.
