A Vietnamese woman whose car was pulled over Friday stripped down to her panties only to flaunt her body, a senior police official in the northern province of Bac Giang has said.
Colonel Do Hong Truyen, chief of the provincial traffic police force, on Saturday confirmed the authenticity of the images of the woman in her panties after they went viral on the Internet over the past few days.
“After being notified of the information, I asked my colleagues to verify it,” he said.
Truyen said the person involved had actually been a man but had his gender reassigned after migrating to the US.
Several sources said the woman is Vietnamese-American. But Truyen stopped short of confirming whether this is true.
He also dismissed widespread rumors that the woman stripped off to protest the cops on duty after her car was pulled over.
“She only wanted to show off her body, which she thought was appealing. But since the incident happened near the traffic police checkpoint, many passers-by misunderstood it and interpreted it differently”, he said.
“It happened very fast and she drove away quickly.”

Earlier, images of the woman, said to be 25, in her panties and standing near the traffic police have been widely spread on social networks.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened at around 9 a.m. on Friday, when the woman’s car with a Hanoi license plate was stopped near the Van Trung Industrial Park in Bac Giang’s Viet Yen District.
According to some social media accounts, after having a row with the policemen, the woman suddenly stripped off her dress. She also reportedly insulted the cops even though they agreed to let her go.
The incident piqued the curiosity of many passers-by who stopped over to take photos, holding up traffic.
