Congratulations to Tunisian newly-elected President


State President Truong Tan Sang cabled a congratulatory message to Mr. Beji Caid Essebsi upon his election as President of the Republic of Tunisia.


Earlier, Mr. Beji Caid Essebsi had served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1981 to 1986 and as Prime Minister from February 2011 to December 2011.


NA Chairman extols close ties with Denmark


National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung hailed the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Viet Nam and Denmark at a reception for Danish Ambassador John Nielsen in Ha Noi.


Hung spoke glowingly of Ambassador John Nielsen’s contributions to fostering the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries over the past years.


John Nielsen said his nation would continue to provide ODA for Viet Nam and assist the Southeast Asian nation in climate change adaptation, culture and education.


Gov’t discusses drafting, submitting laws


The Government’s regular meeting focused on discussing the drafting and submission of laws and ordinances and the issuance of guiding documents on the implementation of laws and ordinances in 2014 and proposed tasks for 2015.


Speaking at the meeting, PM Dung stressed on the efforts and progress made in implementing the law and ordinance establishment program in 2014.


The PM asked for assessing the necessity and the feasibility in amending the laws as well as evaluating the effects of the laws in reality to guarantee their high-quality before submitting to the NA for approval.


Cuba’s National Day marked in HCM City


A ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City to mark the 56th anniversary of Cuba ’s National Day (Jan. 1, 1959-2015).


Addressing the event, President of the Viet Nam–Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA)’s HCM City chapter Hoang Thi Khanh congratulated the Cuban people on their recent achievements, especially the normalisation of relations with the US after 53 years.


The event was co-hosted by the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Associations and the VCFA HCM City.


Retail sales up 10.6% in 2014


The country’s total retail sales and service revenues are estimated to reach VND2.945 trillion in 2014, up 10.6% compared to the previous year.


The total retail sales in December attained VND205,100 billion, up 1.9% compared to the previous month, contributing to the total retail sales of the whole year to VND2.216 trillion, accounting for 75% of the total retail sales and service revenues and up 11.3% against the previous year.


Garment exports set new record


Viet Nam can gain $24.5 billion from exporting garment, the highest figure in the recent three years and bringing the trade surplus of the sector to $12 billion this year.


The US, Japan and the Republic of Korea are three largest importers of Viet Nam’s textile and apparel, accounting for nearly 70% of the total. The garment exports to these nations valued $8.85 billion, $2.38 billion and $1.96 billion, respectively.


VN’s exports to RoK up 7.1% in 11 months


Viet Nam earned $6.53 billion from exporting to the Republic of Korea (RoK) over the past 11 months of 2014, witnessing a year-on-year increase of 7.1%.


The export value of garment ranked first among 40 items Viet Nam exported to the RoK with $1.96 billion, accounting for 30% of the total and up 30% compared to the same period last year.
