PANO – A number of songs and reports shown on in a TV program, titled “Restlessly singing the marching song”. The program was broadcast live on VTV1 by Vietnam Television on the evening of December 19th, brought the audience nationwide back magnanimous moments of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) during 70 years of its establishment, fighting and development.
Addressing the program which linked Hanoi, Khanh Hoa province and Ho Chi Minh City and gathered thousands of veterans and troops, Sr. Lt. Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich, Director of the General Department of Politics of the VPA, laid stress on a series of activities in celebration of the 70th founding anniversary of the VPA and the 25th anniversary of the Whole-People Defence Festival and in recognition of glorious feats of arms, sacrifice and great contributions of troops and people, of generations of VPA’s officers and troops over the past 70 years.
General Lich also expressed deep gratitude to the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh who had organized, educated and decided the VPA’s growth and victories. He showed gratitude to older generations, General Vo Nguyen Giap, heroic mothers, wounded and sick soldiers and revolutionary contributors.
He emphasized that the VPA will try their best to deserve to be Uncle Ho’s soldiers and to build a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern army, be loyal to the Party, the nation and people and protect firmly national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national sovereignty over seas and islands, border and airspace, as well as socialism.
The program started with a report on the establishment of the Vietnam Armed Unit for National Liberation, the VPA’s predecessor, on December 22nd, 1944 in Tran Hung Dao Forest in Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province; and the first victory at Phai Khat-Na Ngan stations.
Other reports highlighted historical locations that closely attach to the VPA as Hien Luong Bridge, Ho Chi Minh Road, K15 Do Son Wharf, and Cu Chi tunnel.
In Ho Chi Minh City, 80-year-old veteran Dinh Cong Ty, a soldier of Division 312 taking part in the resounding Dien Bien Phu Campaign, expressed his pride to contribute to the national protection cause. The veteran recalled that he was one of the youngest members of the unit. He was 18 when he served in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and he could not forget his proud youth.
Also joining the program was To Van Cam, the only living member of the Vietnam Armed Propaganda Unit for National Liberation to date. Cam touchingly opened again his life’s pages during the time living and sacrificing for the nation.
During the program, viewers were entertained with songs praising troops, including “Marching to Hanoi”, “East of Truong Son and West of Truong Son”, “Song of Truong Son” and “Singing about you”.
The program reminded young generations of the glorious time of the nation and of following the older generations for a brighter future of Vietnam.
