Golden Globe and Best Female Students Awards 2014 to be presented

PANO – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam will meet and present the Golden Globe and the Best Female Students Awards 2014 to the winners at the Government’s Office at 8.pm, January 20th.


As usual, this year’s the Golden Globe Awards are given to 10 young excellent specialists and researchers while the Best Female Students 2014, the first-ever award, are offered to 20 outstanding girl-students at technical and technological universities and academies across the country.


Golden Globe Awards 2014: Focus laid on Environmental Technology and Biotechnology


The “Golden Globe”, the National Awards for Youth in Science and Technology was kicked off in 2003 in line with the policy of the Party and the State in developing talents for the nation. This event is held annually by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology. Each year, 10 outstanding young talents in science and technology are awarded.


The Golden Globe Awards 2014 consider awards winners in four areas namely Information Technology (IT) and Communication, Medical and Pharmaceutical Technology, Biotechnology, and Environmental Technology. The Organizing Committee of the awards in 2014 has received 50 nominations from 26 units, including 21 provinces and five ministries, etc.

After two rounds evaluating candidates’ achievements, the Juries have selected 10 best young talents, who will receive the 2014 awards. The winners include one female, six PhDs, two MAs, and two engineers. Of them, three work in the fields of Environmental Technology, three in Biotechnology, two in IT and Communications, and two in Medical and Pharmaceutical Technology. Especially, among the awards winners this year, Pham Van Anh, MA, is a lecturer of the Northwest University coming from the Muong ethnic minority group, actively working in the wildlife protection applied research.


The rewards for each individual winner consist of the Golden Globe trophy, the “Creative Youth” insignia of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Certificate of the Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology and the bonus of VND 20 million from Tan Hiep Phat Trading and Service Company.


After 11 years, the awards has attracted a large number of scientific and technical talents across the provinces, cities and sectors of the country and young Vietnamese studying and working overseas. By 2014, there have been 115 outstanding young talents receiving the awards, encouraging young generations to focus on scientific research and continuing to devote their talent to the construction and development of the nation.


Best Female Student Awards


2014 is the first year the Awards is extended beyond the area of IT, which consist of electricity-electronics and mechanics. These are the areas that female students are encouraged to join.


The Organizing Committee has received 117 nominations from 37 universities and academies nationwide, of which 111 nominations are valid. The Juries have then decided to give awards to 20 outstanding girl-students, including nine in IT, seven in electricity-electronics, and four in mechanics areas.


Students nominated for the awards this year have all recorded the average learning outcomes of at least 7.92, with high distinction scores in their specialized majors. In addition to excellent academic records, many of the students have actively participated in scientific research or done part-time jobs for businesses to self-study and gain more experience. Some also participated in professional competitions such as the Informatics Olympiad, Mathematics Olympiad, Mechanics Olympiad, Robocon, etc. Typical examples include Le Thi Xuan (born 1990) from the Military Technical Academy, Nguyen Thi Bao Ngoc (born 1992) from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Information Technology and Le Kim Quy (born 1992) from Hanoi University of Science and Technology.


Rewards for each best female student in 2014 include the Awards logo, the Certificate of Merit of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Certificate of the Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the bonus of VND 6.5 million from Intel Company.
