(VOVworld) – A community-based model involving both elderly and younger people has proven effective in improving the lives of the elderly, especially those living in disadvantaged areas, Dam Huu Dac, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, said Tuesday at a workshop in Ho Chi Minh City.

40,000 members of 800 clubs are implementing the model in 12 provinces. Poverty reduction activities, physical exercises, volunteer work, art performances, and other club activities have made the elderly more active and confident.
A draft has been submitted to the Government to expand the model until 2020.
