Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on February 24 charged 250 former members of parliament, most of them from the Puea Thai Party, with finding ways to amend the Constitution.
The decision comes less than a month after former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was banned from politics for five years by the legislature.
Wicha Mahakun, a member of the NACC, said that his body found the 250 former MPs guilty of acting unconstitutionally and dishonestly and will forward the case to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA).
They have to face a five-year ban from politics if also found guilty by the NLA.
Of the former lawmakers charged by the NACC, 223 are from the Puea Thai Party.
The case concerns a 2013 proposal by lawmakers from Yingluck’s Puea Thai Party to amend the constitution and enlarge the upper house Senate by making it a fully elected body.-VNA
