Food watchdog fines companies for unsafe food

VND259 million (US$12,125) is totaling amount of fines for food safety violation in last week, said the Food Administration of Vietnam under the Ministry of Health on February 14.


To ensure the food safety on Lunar New Year (Tet holiday), food safety watchdog has imposed fines on 15 enterprises; of which, 12 enterprises violated on advertising and labeling regulation. These violating companies are Ich Nhan Pharmaceutical Company in Cau Giay District in Hanoi; Viet Hieu Beverage and Ecopath Vietnam in Hanoi’s Ha Dong District; Community Development and Commercial Company in Dong Da District; Peacelife Vietnam in Tay Ho District in Hanoi; Ha Minh Technology and Commercial Company in Hoang Mai in Hanoi; Kim Long Investment Company and Fobic Company in Bac Tu Liem in Hanoi; Bao Thanh Duong in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1; Gia An Pharmaceutical Company and Tuscany in District Tan Binh, HCMC; Viet Health Growth Company in HCMC’s District 3.


Especially, Dong Tan Investment and Commercial company in HCMC’s District 12 was fined for importing 11,220 bottles of US-made nutritional supplements each 30 tablets with improper content unlike what they announced with authority. Van Huong Food Processing Company in Hoan Kiem District in Hanoi and Tien Thinh fruit processing in Ba Dinh District were fined for exceeding additive use for manufacturing of sugared dry apricots.


In addition to issuing fines to food safety rules violating companies, the Administration forced them to remove wrong adverts and correct it in public media, turned nutritional supplements into animal feeds and seized all 150 boxes of sugared dry apricots.


Since the beginning of the year, food safety watchdog has collected over VND600 million (US$ 28,089) from fining 28 companies.
