Party’s 85th founding anniversary celebrated


A ceremony was held in Ha Noi to celebrate the 85th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (February 3, 1930).


Speaking at the event, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highlighted the historical meaning of the day, regarding it as a turning-point in the country’s revolutionary history and a milestone in the national development.


He asked for completing key missions set for 2015, including achieving socio-economic development targets, guaranteeing social security and welfare, protecting sovereignty, independence, and peaceful and sustainable environment as well as boosting diplomatic activities.


Mekong Delta Forum discuss measures in response to climate change


The Mekong Delta Forum 2015 was jointly organized by the World Bank, the Australian and Dutch Embassies, the Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment and Agriculture and Rural Development and the Southwest Region Steering Committee.


Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai confirmed that the Mekong Delta plays a strategic role in ensuring food security and sustainable development of the community in the South.


Delegates at the forum discussed long-term measures and experience and proposed realistic activities to cope with and mitigate negative effects of climate change on the Mekong Delta.


VN, Cambodia boost religious cooperation


The Vietnamese Government’s Committee for Religious Affairs and Cambodia’s Ministry of Cult and Religious Affairs held talks and signed a cooperation agreement on religious work for the 2015-2020 period in Ho Chi Minh City.


Host and guest shared experience in state management on religious affairs and assessed the results obtained in the implementation of the 2007 MoU.


The two sides agreed to step up delegation exchange, cooperation in personnel training in religious work, supporting cooperation between the Buddhist Sangha of Viet Nam and the Cambodian Buddhist Sangha.


VN to mobilize development capital equal to 30% GDP


With its efforts in dealing with foreign debts and building financial and credit relations with foreign countries, in the 1993-2013 period foreign donors committed to providing Viet Nam with US$78.19 billion in official development assistance (ODA).


The country has received US$58.36 billion and disbursed US$37.6 billion.


This year the Government aims to mobilize around VND1,345 trillion development capital, equal to around 30% of GDP, including VND275 trillion from foreign direct investment (FDI) and VND30 trillion from other sources.


VN trade deficit swells in January


Viet Nam racked up a US$500 million trade deficit in January on the back of a 91% on-year surge in steel imports for the month.


Overall the nation’s imports spiked 35.5% on-year to US$13.4 billion in January topped off by a jump in steel exports to a record 1.1 million tons.


Aquaculture exports exceed US$8 bln in 2015


Aquatic exports in 2015 are expected to increase and reach more than US$8 billion, according to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).


In 2014, Viet Nam exported aquatic products to 166 markets, gaining US$7.84 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.5% and exceeding 12% compared to the goal set for the year (US$7 billion).


Mekong Delta exports 516,000 tons of rice in Jan.


The Mekong Delta provinces earned US$229 million from export of 516,000 tons of rice in January, up 3.2% over the same period last year, according to the Steering Committee for the Southwestern Region.


In 2015, regional provinces are planned to ship abroad 6.2 million tons of rice, worth US$2.9 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.4%.
