PANO – The Vietnam Coast Guard should be built into a modern force, said General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence, at the working session with the unit on February 12th.
Major General Nguyen Quang Dam, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard, briefed the Minister on their achievements last year, targets for 2015 and preparations for the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
Last year, the Vietnam Coast Guard effectively fulfilled all assigned tasks to firmly protect the national sovereignty at sea.
Besides, its units’ ships conducted nearly 100 patrols to fight crimes, smuggling and trade fraud, seizing many suspects and reclaiming more than VND 100 billion for the State budget.
They also actively participated in search and rescue missions, external relations work, and strengthening the national defene and security posture.
Addressing the event, General Phung Quang Thanh requested the Vietnam Coast Guard to continuously raise combat readiness and surmount difficulties in implementing missions, and well carry out international cooperation, SAR work and the fight crimes, smuggling, trade fraud and sea pirates.
On this occasion, he presented gifts and wished the force’s troops a happy Tet holiday.
