Army units conferred with noble title

PANO – Division 320 of Army Corps 3 on March 6th held a ceremony to receive the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces conferred to Regiment 48’s Battalion 3 and Regiment 52’s Battalion 5.


During the resistance wars against French and American invaders, Battalion 3 took part in ten campaigns with more than 2,500 battles, gaining many feats of arm. In a battle in Gio Hai of Quang Tri province’s Gio Linh district from May 1st to 4th, 1968, the unit dealt a heavy blow to two American battalions. Besides, the unit’s troops actively carried out international obligation in neighbouring country of Cambodia.

Meanwhile, Battalion 5 was among five main battalions of Base 11 of Hanoi capital in charge of protecting President Ho Chi Minh and the Government in the first days of the national resistance war. It participated in more than 960 battles, including the fight in Cua Viet on March 29th. In this battle, thanks to their courage and unyieldingness, troops of the unit intercepted five American battalions and two others of puppet troops equipped with 30 tanks, aircraft and heavy artillery, killing more than 300 enemy troops, destroying nine tanks and seizing many weapons.


In acknowledgement of their feats of arms, the State President decided to present the noble title to the units.
