— Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will attend a memorial service to be held for the late Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore on March 29. On March 23, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang and PM Tan Dung extended their condolences to Singaporean leaders over the death of the former PM Lee who passed away on early March 23 at 91.

— The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) on Friday issued a directive asking all aviation firms to ensure flight safety by strengthening control over operations of the cabin crew on all flights. The CAAV’s move came after the data found from the black box of Germany’s Germanwings Flight 4U 9525, which crashed into the French Alps on March 24, killing 150 people, showed that the plane’s co-pilot deliberately worked to destroy the plane while passengers shrieked in terror.
— The People’s Court of the northern province of Quang Tri on Friday sentenced a local physician, Nguyen Thi Thuan, to 5 years in prison, while giving 3-4 year jail terms to three other health workers for committing serious mistakes in vaccination at Huong Hoa District General Hospital in July 2013, causing the deaths of three babies.
— An earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale hit Tuan Giao District in the northern province of Dien Bien at 8:44 am on Friday, with its epicenter located 15.3 km underground, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center under the Global Physics Institute reported.
— A 29-year-old woman in her 5th month pregnancy fell from the 11th floor of Ho Chi Minh City-based Tu Du Obstetrics Hospital to the ground and died on the spot at 3:30 pm on Friday. She had come to the clinic with her aunt for a pregnancy examination. Police are investigating the death, which initial sources said was triggered by the deceased’s sufferings in her emotional life.
— Torrential rains, with a rainfall of up to 500 mm, have raged in the central province of Quang Ngai since Tuesday, causing great damage to agricultural production, with about 440 hectares of rice and over 50 hectares of corn and cassava submerged and ruined, local authorities reported. Prolonged heavy rains have also damaged many roads and caused landslides in some areas.

— South Korea’s LG Electronics Group inaugurated the LG’s Hai Phong Campus, a large technology complex, in Trang Due Industrial Park in the northern Vietnamese city of Hai Phong on Friday. Covering an area of 800,000 m2 and having an investment of US$1.5 billion, Hai Phong Campus has the largest scale among the LG plants in South East Asia.
— The People’s Committee of the south-central province of Khanh Hoa has called on businesses, tourist companies, supermarkets and shops to join the province’s “Khanh Hoa Tourism Promotion Program” by cutting down their prices of goods and services by at least 10 percent for their customers during the year, to help the province attract over 4 million visitors and earn a total tourism revenue of VND6,500 billion (US$302.3 million) in 2015.

— Vietnam’s U23 football team, or the Olympic Vietnam team, defeated their Malaysian rivals 2-1 in a match on Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on March 27. This victory has created a great advantage for the Vietnamese team in the race to win a ticket to the final round of the AFC U-23 Championship, said the team’s Japanese coach Toshiya Miura.
