CNN International’s monthly travel show CNNGo will explore local life and hot spots in Ho Chi Minh City this month.

The city, formerly known as Saigon, is in the middle of balancing a growing economy with an intense desire to hold onto its history.

CNNGo kicks off the journey on the back of a bike with Vietnam Vespa Adventures, which allows tourists to see snapshots of local life and tucked away hot spots.

Then local rapper Suboi will introduce viewers to her favorite places that have hints of old Saigon life, including a family-style meal at Cuc Gach Quan.

Historian Tim Doling will explain the changing face of Ho Chi Minh City and shows the audiences a hidden part of history in the middle of the city.

Finally, CNNGo takes a quick trip down to Con Dao Island, one of the newest tourist destinations in Vietnam.

While the island, 230 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, may have a dark past with many revolutionaries imprisoned there during the French occupation, it also boasts breathtaking beaches.

The CNNGo episode featuring Ho Chi Minh City will air on March 11 at 4:30 pm (Vietnam time), with an encore telecast at 12:30 pm on March 14 and another repeat at 7:30 pm on March 15.

CNNGo is a monthly 30-minute show featuring global destinations, bringing views from insiders on what dynamic cities in Asia really look like.
