International Women’s Day marked in Phnom Penh

The Association of Cambodians of Vietnamese Origin held a ceremony in Phnom Penh on March 7th to mark the 105th anniversary of the International Women’s Day and introduce the interim executive board of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) in Cambodia.


The meeting drew the participation of representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy to Cambodia, the Association of Cambodians of Vietnamese Origin, Vietnamese business women, and overseas Vietnamese working in the host country.

Speaking at the event, Vice President and Secretary General of the Association Pham Thanh Thuy reiterated the history of the international women’s movement and day (March 8th) and highlighted the efforts of generations of Vietnamese Cambodian women to contribute greatly to economic development and Vietnam’s cultural conservation and help strengthen ties between the two countries and people.


On the occasion, the Vietnam Women’s Union in Cambodia and its interim executive board were officially launched. Businesswoman Hoang Hoa was appointed as the board’s President and Pham Thanh Thuy as the union’s Honorary President.


The VWU in Cambodia will offer a space for Vietnamese Cambodian women to meet and exchange experiences towards improved living standards and greater social integration.


A ceremony to mark International Women’s Day was also held in Seoul on March 7th by the Vietnamese Embassy to the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the Vietnam Women’s Union in the Rok.
