(VOV) – Leaders of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and its country representatives in the Asia-Pacific region gathered this week in Ho Chi Minh City to discuss the development of democracy in the region.

They also discussed an action plan for the foundation for 2016 to 2018 period.

The event, which was hosted by KAS Vietnam for the first time, is an important event for the organization in the region as it aims to tackle the main issues in the foundation’s working plan for the next three years, ranging from finance to its regional programmes.

The highlight of KAS’ week-long agenda is the conference on democracy development in Asia and the challenges that KAS is facing. The conference will cover topics, such as German foreign policy and security challenges in Asia, political education in the light of the current state of democracy development and the sustainable development of democracy.

The conference participants will also put forth their agenda on regional economic issues, including macroeconomic trends in Asia and the development of the ASEAN economic community.

The event attendees are also expected to learn about Vietnam’s current political and economic situation through a presentation made by German Ambassador Jutta Frasch.

The KAS event, which is scheduled to conclude on March 14, will witness the attendance of Vice Minister of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, Hans-Joachim Fuchtel, KAS Deputy Secretary General Gerhard Wahlers, and the Head of KAS Asia Department, Beatrice Gorawantschy.

The event will also be attended by Vietnam’s Justice Deputy Minister Nguyen Khanh Ngoc and KAS Vietnam’s partners.

The KAS is a political foundation, with close ties to the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). Based in Berlin, KAS runs programmes in more than 120 countries in four continents and has more than 80 offices around the world.

Having worked in Vietnam since 1993, KAS activities aim to support the country’s policy makers, governmental institutions, administrative bodies, think-tanks, as well as society-oriented mass organisations.

KAS Vietnam has partnered with the National Assembly, the Ministry of Justice, the Vietnam Academy of Social Science, the Institute of State and Law and the Vietnam Journalists Association, among others.
