The 13th Vietnam Poetry Day will be opened on Thursday at the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam) in Hanoi, Tuoi Tre reports.


In addition to Vietnamese writers, the event will be attended by 153 poets from 41 nations and territories including the U.K., France, Germany, the U.S., China, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Sweden, Turkey, Japan, India, South Africa, Russia and Mongolia.


According to Nguyen Quang Thieu, vice chairman of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, the theme of the event is national seas and islands.


The Poetry Day will feature art performances and recitations of poetries with many of them centering on the main subject of seas and islands, as well as exhibitions of Vietnamese literary works published abroad, and exchanges between local and international colleagues.


About 30 poetry clubs, eight provinces, six universities and a couple of publishers will take part as well.


The Vietnam Poetry Day coincides with the second Asia-Pacific Poetry Festival and the third international conference on Vietnamese literature which are ongoing from March 2 to 6.
