NDO – Politburo member and Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) To Huy Rua on March 18 held a working session with leaders of Lao Cai province to review Party building and the socio-economic development of the locality in the first quarter of this year.

According to a report of the provincial authorities, Lao Cai Party Committee has nearly 680 Party committees at the grass root level, grouping roughly 40,000 Party members.

Over the past years, the province has taken many measures to boost Party building, increase the leadership and fighting capacity of its Party organisations, and step up the implementation of social policies, particularly those targeting disadvantaged ethnic groups.

The locality’s socio-economic situation has also seen positive signs since the beginning of this year with provincial budget collection of around VND1,500 billion (US$70 million) and export–import revenue of over US$200 million.

Lao Cai has also planned to start constructions of the Ban Qua Bronze Refinery, Ta Phoi Bronze Screening Factory, and a road linking Noi Bai-Lao Cai highway and the tourism town of Sapa.

Addressing the working session, Politburo member Rua, who is also Head of the PCC Commission for Organisation, hailed the province’s achievements over the past years as well as its effort to maintain a high and sustainable growth rate in comparison with neighbouring provinces in the northwest region.

He asked the local authorities to focus on developing industry and services while paying attention to agriculture production.

The province should also focus on training and nurturing young Party members at the grass root levels and exert efforts to fulfill targets for its socio-economic development.
