The launching ceremony was co-organized by HCMC Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Industry and Trade, Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Saigon Union of Trading Co-operative.

Since the dawn, the participants had gathered at the Youth Cultural House and been ready to ride bicycles at noon.

Besides riding, they would call on people in various districts of the city to advocate the campaign by turning off lights for an hour starting 8:30 p.m. on March 28.

The organization board expected that over 5,000 people would attend in the lights-off.

Within the framework of the campaign is “20s for the Earth Hour” project, in which the participants mobilize people to stop their engines when they stop for more than 20 seconds at a red light in the city.

Another project will also be carried out to repair and upgrade Nguyen Du Primary School, District 12 by March 21.

Volunteers of “Green energy” project will come to residential areas and call upon people to switch off unnecessary lights to save energy.

Besides traditional activities, the Green Earth Hour 2015 will comprise some new projects such as “I love green Vietnam” that will mobilize restaurants to provide discount vouchers for customers who register to switch off their lights.

A competition on environmental and social knowledge will be hosted from school to city levels. The final round will take place on March 28.
