(Photo: AP) A new study, conducted by two researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and reported in the Science Daily, suggests that the strain has acquired mutations that make it more dangerous than previous strains of H1N1 influenza. These results are supported by figures released by the Union Health Ministry, revealing as many as about 1,500 people have perished with the numbers of infected at around 27,000. The deadly virus has also already infected more than 25,000 people across the South Asian nation. Symptoms include high fever, extreme breathlessness, lethargy, pain in the chest, loss of appetite and nausea or vomiting. Three pharma companies in India, Hetero, Natco and Strides Acrolab, are manufacturing oseltamivir, the drug used to treat swine flu. All health personnel treating people infected with swine flu are vaccinated against it and given personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves./. |
