Vietnam jumps two places in FIFA ranking

(VOV) -Vietnam’s national football team has climbed two notches to 130th in the latest International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) ranking.


Accordingly, with 220 points, the team has ranked second in Southeast Asia and 16th overall in Asia.


The Philippines stood world No 128 still topped the list in Southeast Asia, followed by Vietnam (130th in the world), Thailand (142nd) and Myanmar (151st).


In Asia, three top places are Iran (42nd in the world), Japan (53rd) and the Republic of Korea (56th).


In the world ranking, Germany took the top spot, with Argentina as second and Colombia as the third highest team.


The next rankings will be announced by FIFA on April 9 which is the basis classification of the 2018 World Cup’s second qualifying round in Asian region.


If Vietnam maintains 16th position in Asia, the team will place in second division and avoid facing some strong opponents in the region.
