(VOV) -Vietnam has proposed summarizing lessons withdrawn from the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) in the past decade and building a complete mechanism as well as setting orientations for future ADMM activities.
A senior military delegation led by Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh attended the 9th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM-9) which officially opened on March 16 in Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia
Those in attendance compared notes on issues on the impacts of traditional and non-traditional security on regional security.
They also touched upon matters pertaining to threat from the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS), maritime security, high-tech development security, pirate prevention in the East Sea (South China Sea) and cooperation and coordination mechanisms in natural disaster prevention.
Malaysia’s initiative to establish an ASEAN peace-keeping force was also put forth at the event and received support from ASEAN member countries.
