Environmental police in northern central Vietnam on Tuesday evening caught red-handed a woman while trafficking 6 iced wildcats on her motorbike.
The 6 carcasses, which were 18 kilograms in weigh in total, were carried inside a carton on the back of Le Thi Tu Oanh’s motorbike, Nghe An police said today morning.
Oanh, 33, told police that she had bought the carcasses of the wildcats from some hunters in the Pu Mat forest, nearby the area.
She was trafficking the carcasses to Vinh town in order to sell them at a profit later.
Police said they are investigating into others related to the illegal hunting and trading of the rare animals.
Wildcats, also known as Felis silvestris, was classified as endangered animal in Vietnam’s red book.
It is illegal to hunt, kill, trade or advertise endangered animals or products from them in the country.
