The inauguration ceremony of the upgraded Tan Hoa – Lo Gom Canal was held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 5 with attendance of President Truong Tan Sang.

HCMC Party Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai, the municipal chairman Le Hoang Quan, relevant departments’ leaders and residents were also among those attending the event.
Started in 2010, the 162 million USD project, with nearly 129 million USD sourced from the World Bank (WB), improved environment and reduced flooding and pollution in 4 districts including 6,11,Tan Binh and Tan Phu.
Accordingly, the works consisted of building 11 bridges, 11,815m of roads, nearly 8,000m of dykes, four parks along the canal, drainage of rain water and wastewater; and dredging 300,000 cubic metres of wastewater.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan stressed that the city has completed the upgrade project and the treatment of wastewater for canals including Tan Hoa-Lo Gom, Tau Hu-Ben Nghe and Nhieu Loc- Thi Nghe. The prjects have improved living conditions of local citizens in dictricts, 1,3,6,10, Phu Nhuan, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Thanh and Go Vap.
The chairman expressed his sincere thanks to the World Bank and residents in the area for partnering with the local authorities in supporting the upgrade projects.
On the occasion, President Truong Tan Sang presented Labour Order, second class, to the city’s management board for urban infrastructure upgrade.
The upgrade is among activities celebrating the 40 th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification day (April 30).
