Many people, mostly the young, jostled each other to climb over the fence of a water park in Hanoi on Sunday morning just for free baths, causing mayhem in the area.

A number of visitors to Ho Tay Park, located in Tay Ho District, were seen chaotically climbing over its fence, which stand about two meters tall, to enter its water park only for two hours of free enjoyment.

Nghiem Hong Hanh, vice general director of Hanoi Entertainment Services Co., which runs Ho Tay Park, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the free session, from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, was offered to visitors on the first day of their annual program to express their thanks to clients.

On Sunday morning, some thousand people gathered in front of the water park for their turns to get in.

The management of Ho Tay Park later made an announcement on the loudspeakers that no more visitors would be admitted to the water park, which was already overloaded with the influx of bathers.

Many, mostly youngsters, who were probably driven by the stuffy, hot weather in the past few days, were set on entering the park by any means.

Hanh, the company director, added her staff did not dare to pull down the reckless clients, who were trying to climb over the fence, as it was quite risky to do so.

A number of parents even helped their children surmount the fence.

These clients finally gave up on their bid after being persuaded by the park staff.

Hanh told Tuoi Tre that Ho Tay received over 20,000 park-goers on Sunday alone.

Her company had deployed almost 100 security guards and sought assistance from the district police to ensure maximal security for the free bathing session.

A similar session held last year was also overwhelmed with visitors, but no one was found climbing over the fence, Hanh noted.
