PANO – The 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) in Vietnam has concluded, leaving good impression on international delegates by its success and the hospitality of the people in the S-shaped country.

IPU-132 a success

The results of IPU-132 were more successful than we had expected, said Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, a member of Ghanaian Parliament. He added that with the approved resolutions and discussed subjects at the IPU-132 showed the participants’ high determination in solving global urgent problems, such as terrorism, cyber war, water supply and the protection of mothers and children’s health which Ghana has been facing. The Ghanaian parliamentarian said that the country has paid attention to managing water resources as water shortage is one of the reasons causing conflicts in Africa. The country is also trying to provide better healthcare for mothers and children.

Meanwhile, answering the press on the sidelines of the IPU-132, IPU Spokesperson Jemini Pandya said that sustainable development, the highlight subject at the 132nd Assembly, was the biggest problem at the present time. The approved resolutions and their implementation would have enormous effects on people’s life which is the most important factor for a sustainable development society.

Melissa Lee, a delegate from New Zealand said that the country is proud to be the first country that gave women the right to vote and it has been actively promoting women’s participation in government, talks and trading activities. She hoped more women in other countries, including Vietnam would take part in national assemblies because they could make great contributions to national decisions.

A country of hospitality

Parliamentarians showed their pleasure at the careful preparations of Vietnam and the hospitality of Hanoians.

Coming to Vietnam for the first time, Melissa Lee was amazed at the rapid development of the country which suffered from the severe consequences of wars and the beauty of Hanoi. “I am impressed by Vietnamese food. It’s delicious”, said the New Zealander parliamentarian.
