HCM CITY(VNS)— The HCM City Department of Education and Training will work with the New South Wales Department of Education and Communities to train Vietnamese students in various technical fields using Australian curricula.
An MoU on co-operation in college and vocational education was signed yesterday by the education departments of HCM City and New South Wales as well as Education Management Group, a private enterprise that facilitates links between Vietnamese and foreign educational institutions.
Under the MoU, TAFE NSW, a leading Australian vocational education and training provider, will introduce its vocational programmes to vocational schools and colleges in the city, said Le Hong Son, director of the HCM City Department of Education and Training.
The co-operation will create opportunities for teacher and student exchanges between the two sides, Son said at a press briefing yesterday.
A co-operation programme will be piloted in three institutions in the city – the Thu Duc College of Technology, the Phu Lam Technical and Economic College and the Nguyen Huu Canh Technology and Economic Vocational School, he said.
Participating schools will be assisted in improving their teaching facilities and training courses provided for Vietnamese teachers with funding sourced from the State budget and the Australian Government.
Son said that current facilities as well as syllabi at vocational schools and colleges in the city were not adequate to attract high school graduates.
“Both governments recognise the importance of quality education and high level skills for the working age population,” said Pam Christie, Managing Director of TAFE NSW.
“We have many common goals. One of the common goals is to improve outcomes of students,” she said.
The co-operation will help increase the skills of the city’s workforce, boosting economic growth.
“Many actions will follow today’s signing ceremony,” Christie said.
The programme is expected to start enrolling students in the 2013-14 academic year. —VNS
