Nhan Dan Online – The National Team Tennis Tournament – Viettravel Cup 2013 kicked off on May 19 at Tien Son Sports Complex in the central coastal city of Da Nang.
This year’s event attracts 67 tennis players from 19 teams in Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Military force, Kien Giang, Ca Mau, and hosts Da Nang, competing in both men’s and women’s team events under the Davis Cup and Fed Cup format, respectively.
Tennis fans are expected to witness some highly competitive and potentially fascinating matches and see a number of outstanding Vietnamese tennis players including Nguyen Hoang Thien, Ly Hoang Nam, Pham Minh Tuan, Le Quoc Khanh, among others.
The event, along with the National Tennis Championships and National Masters Tennis Tournament, is one of the three biggest annual tennis events under the Vietnam Tennis Federation system. The tournament provides a good chance for athletes to hone their skills and aims to evaluate tennis training at localities nationwide.
After the opening ceremony, three matches in men’s team event were played with Ho Chi Minh City 2 team beat Vinh Phuc 2-0, Hanoi 2 defeated Kien Giang 2-1, and Binh Duong 1 won 2-0 over Da Nang 2.
The annual tournament marks the 123rd birthday of President Ho Chi Minh on May 19 and runs until May 23.
