Fear of cervical cancer high among Vietnamese women

At a seminar hosted by Merck Sharp & Dohme Ltd in Phan Thiet City in the central province of Binh Thuan from May 17-19, the medical fraternity claimed that nine out of every 26 women infected with cervical cancer eventually succumb to the disease each day.


The seminar that was attended by nearly 150 doctors and medical workers from the southern region, talked about cervical cancer being the second most fatal cancer among Vietnamese women. In the world, cervical cancer kills 650 women every single day.


Cao Huu Nghia, a doctor from Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, said that HPV vaccine and Pap tests can help minimize the threat of cervical cancer.
