Nhan Dan Online – The Ho Chi Minh City team swept the medal tally and finished first at the swimming events of the 2013 National Age Group Swimming and Finswimming Championships which closed in the city today.
The HCM City team members were crowned champions with 54 gold, 43 silver and 25 bronze medals, followed by Long An with 18 golds, 14 silvers and 14 bronzes. Quang Binh claimed third with nine gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals.
The four day swimming event attracted 150 swimmers from 17 localities across the country to compete in under 12, 13-14, and 15-17 age categories.
The competition saw 15 new national records established in different age groups, of which five were created by HCM City’s Tran Duy Khoi.
The tournament, held jointly by Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association, HCM City Aquatic Sports Association, and the City’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aims to review athletic training nationwide and to select outstanding athletes for the upcoming South East Asian (SEA) Age Group Swimming Championships scheduled in June.
