Addressing the press conference organized by the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on May 14, Japanese Embassy’s First Secretary Shigeru Kishida said that 12 new technical cooperation projects would stick closely to the goal of Vietnam becoming an industrialized and modernized nation by 2020. In addition, through technical cooperation projects, Japan would share their knowledge and experiences in order to resolve Vietnam’s socioeconomic problems.

Together with the support of the Japanese government for Vietnam in the second period, the project focusing on strengthening the system and operation on standards and conformity is particularly notable among 12 technical cooperation projects. Vietnam currently has applied the energy labeling program depending on the level of energy-saving on appliances, machines and vehicles. In particular, the program will also apply to air conditioners and refrigerators in the near future. Through its technical cooperation project, Japanese experts will share their experiences and knowledge to help Vietnam apply international energy-saving standards. The purpose of the project is to guide consumers in terms of energy-saving product usage and create incentives for producers to pay more attention to energy-saving products.

The project focusing on restructuring the bank system is also another outstanding project. The Japanese Embassy’s First Secretary Shigeru Kishida said that Japan had much experience in the restructuring of the bank system, such as dealing with bad debts, ensuring liquidity and implementing credit guarantee mechanisms. Therefore, the project will be effective support for Vietnam in the development process towards industrialization and modernization by 2020.

Japan will also send experienced experts to Vietnam in many different areas, such as agriculture, tourism development and environmental solutions and response to climate change. In addition, Japan will offer training courses for 179 Vietnamese administrative staff in the health sector, rural agriculture, infrastructure, science and technology.

Japan will also cooperate with Vietnam to ensure the development of infrastructure in the future through technical cooperation projects. The Japanese government adopted the Vietnam’s industrialization strategy by 2020 based on the joint declaration between the two countries. This strategy will contribute to promoting the development of infrastructure in Vietnam./.
