(VOV) -State President Truong Tan Sang’s upcoming visit to China is of paramount significance for consolidating the political trust and friendly cooperation between the two Parties and States in building a substantial comprehensive strategic partnership.
President Truong Tan Sang will pay an official visit to China from June 19-21 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
On the occasion, a Beijing-based VOV correspondent has interviewed Qi Jianguo, Vice Chairman of the China-Vietnam Friendship Association, on relations between the two nations.
Reporter:What is your assessment of Vietnam-China relations over the years?
Qi Jianguo: Vietnam and China which share some parts of the rivers and mountains and certain similarities in terms of national growth, culture and destiny have maintained a long-standing friendship. After 63 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties, generations of leaders have spared no effort to develop the China-Vietnam traditional friendship nurtured byPresident Ho Chi Minh and President Mao Zedong, and other predecessors of the two countries.
This is a valuable asset to the two parties, states and peoples. I believe that on the basis of close solidarity for mutual development, bilateral relations will be upgraded to a higher level.
Reporter:What do you think about the Vietnamese President’s upcoming visit to China?
Qi Jianguo: Mr Sang’s scheduled visit is the first State-level visit in his capacity as President and also the first official visit by a Vietnamese senior leader after China has a new leadership.
Judging from profound changes in the world, both Vietnam and China are facing great opportunities but huge challenges for development. The exchange of visits by leaders and their views on bilateral cooperation provide a firm foundation for further strengthening the Vietnam-China strategic partnership.
Both sides appreciate President Sang’s visit which, I hope, will be a great success.
Reporter: What are opportunities and challenges for Vietnam-China relations in the time to come?
Qi Jianguo: I think there is plenty of opportunity for Vietnam-China relations to growth and flourish. President Sang’s visit will provide fresh impetus for consolidating bilateral ties in the near future. I am delighted at the strengthening of Vietnam-China relations in recent years.
Regarding sea-related issues, both sides need to renew ways of thinking and maintain the existing mechanisms, while building a new cooperative mechanism for dealing with issues of mutual concern.
