(CPV)On June 24, Siemens held a press conference in Hanoi to mark the 20th anniversary of Siemens’ official presence in Vietnam and launch its first hybrid-drive bus prototype.

At the press conference, Dr. Pham Thai Lai, CEO of Siemens Vietnam, provided an overview of the history of Siemens in Vietnam and highlighted the company’s most remarkable business successes during the past 20 years that have made it one of the most successful multinational companies in Vietnam.

Siemens was officially established in Vietnam in 1993 with representative offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Since then, Siemens has participated in numerous infrastructure projects in Vietnam in all key areas of the economy such as energy, industry, healthcare and transportation.

In order to create a solid basis for enhancing cooperation with local partners, Siemens Ltd. was founded in September 2002 to provide solutions and services related to Siemens products and systems.

The rapid expansion of its business relations with Vietnam led to the establishment of an automation plant in Binh Duong province in 2005 producing busbar trunking systems. To date, Siemens is an integral part of the Vietnamese economy and is committed to further contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam.

At the press conference, Siemens and Vinamotor launched the first prototype of a hybrid-drive bus with Siemens ELFA drive technology. The hybrid-drive was the result of nine months of close collaboration between Siemens and Vinamotor.

The Siemens ELFA hyrid-drive technology helps city buses reduce fuel consumption by up to 50%, thus significantly saving costs. The operation of these buses will also mitigate their environmental impact through lower exhaust emissions, and at the same time, provide maximum comfort for passengers. Furthermore, riders and drivers travelling behind the bus can enjoy clean air when the diesel engine of the bus stops.

At present, Siemens is the leader in a number of business areas in Vietnam, including gas turbines for combined cycle power plants, medical imaging systems, industry automation and busway systems./.
