HA GIANG – Three people were detained yesterday for allegedly engaging in human trafficking, the Ha Giang Police Department said today.
Police reported Nguyen Quynh Huong, 23, a college student in the city of Ha Giang, last month began luring high school students to China, promising to pay them VND30-40 million (US$1,500-$2,000) a month to work as sellers.
Huong networked with Dang Thi Mai, 16, also living in the Ha Giang city area, to assist in finding girls to sell as prostitutes in China.
Police said that by the end of May, the pair had sold a total of six children and women to contacts in China.
They were arrested by Ha Giang border police on May 31.
Five of the victims were rescued and efforts are being made to locate the others in China. – VNS
