HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam has become a party to the newly signed charter to establish a Public Interest Group (GIP) of the European Consortium for Asian Field Study (ECAF).

The outcome followed a five-day working visit to France by a delegation from the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) led its Vice President Nguyen Quang Thuan.

The charter, which was inked at the ECAG General Assembly in Paris on Monday, aimed to activate further co-operation in the research and teaching of social sciences, especially in the areas of linguistics, culture, history, archaeology and religion.

Parties to the charter agreed to provide field approaches and frameworks in Asia for common benefits, develop joint programmes on Asia research managed by each party, make full use of the existing research centres by forming a network and sharing studying documents and costs as well as promoting Europe-Asia co-operation dialogue among the two regions' research communities.

On this occasion, a co-operation agreement between the VASS and the Ecole Pratiquedes Hautes Etudes, a leading institute for higher education and research, was signed, paving the way for further co-operation in teaching and researching issues relating to culture, Sino-Vietnamese and archaeology.
