(VOV) -The General Department of Vietnam Customs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual administrative assistance and cooperation with Hong Kong Customs.

Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Nguyen Ngoc Tuc, and Hong Kong’s Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Clement Cheung, signed the document in Brussels, Belgiuim, on June 28 within the framework of the annual World Customs Organization (WCO) conference.
This was the 18thdocument of its kind Vietnam Customs has signed with foreign partners.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Tuc highly appreciated the cooperative agreement between the two sides, aiming to prevent and combat cross-border smuggling, commercial fraud, and customs violations.
He stressed that the MoU represents the long-standing cooperation between the two customs agencies and the common wish of the respective administrations to strengthen cooperation in combating transnational customs crimes through mutual administrative assistance, information exchanges and the enforcement of customs laws.
Commissioner Cheung said that Hong Kong Customs has signed 20 similar cooperative documents with its partners so far, and he hopes that this agreement will bring more economic benefits to both sides.
Two-way trade between Hong Kong and Vietnam reached US$3.1 billion in 2011, US$4.7 billion in 2012 and US$1.7 billion in the first five months of this year.
Tuc also held bilateral meetings with customs leaders from Switzerland, and Kazakhstan at the WCO conference.
