(VEN) – At a Vietnam-Luxembourg Finance Forum recently held in Hanoi, Luxembourg’s Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Thill said, “the cooperation between Vietnam and Luxembourg in the finance-banking sector which has existed for only five years has obtained positive results. In the coming time, Luxembourg is ready to provide further support through technical and vocational training assistance to Vietnam.”
Addressing the forum, Deputy Minister of Finance Truong Chi Trung said the Vietnam’s financial market is in the early stages of its development period and still has an enormous potential. The Vietnamese Government intends to develop this market efficiently, publicly and transparently, and step by step reach international standards, helping to create an important capital raising channel for the domestic economy.
Deputy Minister Trung also appreciated the precious support from the Luxembourg Government in helping Vietnam’s finance sector draft up a legal framework and develop the financial market.
On behalf of leaders of the two countries, Vietnamese Minister of Finance and Luxembourg’s Minister of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance signed the Capital Market Development in Vietnam Protocol based on Project VIE026 with granted capital of EUR3 million.
Nguyen Thi Lien Hoa, the vice chairman of the State Securities Commission (SSC) said the SSC highly appreciated the achieved results of the project to the development of the securities market in terms of drafting a legal framework, connecting transactions, construction of an information and technology system for management of the market and improved supervision capabilities for officials. The efforts of consulting experts to apply international standards to domestic legal documents correcting the securities market contributed to improving transparency for the market.
It is reported that in the Vietnam-Luxembourg Indicative Cooperation Program for the 2011-2015 period, the Luxembourg government pledged to provide support for the prioritized sectors. As for the finance sector, both countries are stepping up implementation of the VIE/032 Improving professionalism and providing technical assistance in finance sector project. Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Xuan Ha said the Ministry of Finance was very interested in the project, as features of it met long and short term demands.
At the forum, Marc Thill also said that in the coming time, Luxembourg is ready to provide further support through technical and vocational training assistance to Vietnam, in the finance sector in particular, contributing to raising bilateral relations to new heights./.
