HA NOI (VNS)- Seven-member weightlifting team left for Kazakhstan today to partake in the Asian Weightlifting Championships on June 20-26.

“The event will give Vietnamese young athletes a chance to hone their skills for the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar later this year and 17th Asian Games next year so we don’t spin medal hope on them. However, veterans Tran Le Quoc Toan and Thach Kim Tuan will try their best to gain medals in the men’s 56kg category,” said Do Dinh Khang, head of weightlifting section of the National Sports Administration.

At the Asian event in South Korea last year, Toan took one silver and one bronze, while Tuan brought home a bronze medal. There will be a little challenge for Toan as he is recovering from injury.

In preparation for this event, the team have trained hard at the National Sports Training Centre with the support of a Bulgarian expert. – VNS
