(VEN) – Many businesses in Bac Ninh Province have had annual OHS plans and coordinated with local related agencies in providing OHS and fire prevention training and periodic health examinations for their employees, taking a significant step in the efforts to ensure OHS and fire control at businesses.
Currently, Bac Ninh has had more than 3,000 companies operating in the fields of manufacturing, trading and service. These companies have attracted thousands of workers, contributing to reducing the unemployment rates in urban areas while increasing employment rates in rural areas, and promoting socioeconomic development. However, the local rapid development of industrial parks went along with increased risks of fire, explosion, and occupational diseases especially when there was no close coordination between employers, employees and local authorities.
Recognizing this problem, Bac Ninh’s authorities have in recent years paid due attention to OHS and fire control improvement, handing out messages on building safe workplaces and accident warnings, and offer solutions to prevent occupational accidents and fire. The Law on fire prevention and fighting has been put on business agendas and the mass media so as to reach all classes of people.
Annually, Bac Ninh’s Department of Labor Invalids and Social Affairs also coordinates with the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and Medical Evaluation to provide training on OHS guidelines, policies, standards, and measures to improve working conditions and avoid occupational diseases for employees and employers in the province.
Thanks to effective coordination, OHS and fire-explosion prevention activities have been improved in many enterprises in Bac Ninh. Many local companies were highlighted for having reached OHS and fire prevention standards including Dong Binh JSC, Dap Cau Garment JSC, Lilama 69-1 JSC, VIETRUST JSC, plus also a number of foreign-invested enterprises.
Before recruitment, local businesses are often organized OHS training for workers and testing their OHS knowledge. Many technical improvements to ensure OHS have been applied by local businesses. Every year, they also hold health examinations for their employees. These efforts by local businesses have yielded positive results, making employees stick to their jobs and therefore stabilizing business production and trading.
However, according to Head of Bac Ninh’s Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and Medical Examination Nguyen Ngoc Bien, via inspecting some local companies, inspectors still saw bad health protection measures including not enough labor protection equipment and bad labor protection awareness.
“The work of ensuring OHS and fire prevention requirements in manufacturing and trading operations should always be attached importance to. Especially, state level OHS and fire prevention management must be intensified for the overall development,” Bien said.
According to experts at a recent OHS conference organized by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, in addition to corporate OHS and fire prevention plans and regulations, workers should also equip themselves with OHS and fire prevention and control knowledge. A close coordination between employers and employees in OHS activities will surely reduce OHS incidents, unnecessary loss of lives and property, and adverse impact on social security and the environment investment./.
