PANO – A seminar to share experiences on United Nations peacekeeping operations was held in Da Nang on July 18th by Vietnam and the Republic of Korea.
The seminar, “Sharing experiences in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations with new troop contributors”, is to assist Vietnam and other ASEAN member states which plan to begin contributing troops to UN Peacekeeping Operations.
The delegates from ASEAN countries, the Republic of Korea, the United Nations and countries that are actively assisting Vietnam in its preparation to participate in the UN peacekeeping operations such as Australia, the UK, India and the US, joined the seminar to share their experiences.
Major General Vu Tien Trong, Director of the Institute for Defence International Relations of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence, said that the seminar was a good chance for Vietnam to learn from the experiences of countries participating in UN Peacekeeping Operations, and to well prepare its troops for the mission.
Accordingly, the delegates focused their discussions on three main contents: trends in UN Peacekeeping Operations and Vietnam’s preparation work for its mission; sharing experiences in troop deployment; and training in UN Peacekeeping Operations.
The seminar also further consolidated the strategic partnership between the RoK and ASEAN, and promoted contributions to global efforts for international peace and security.
