Asian Youth Games: Vietnam wins two golds

(Cinet)- On August 21, two gold medals marked the Vietnamese team’s best performance day at the 2013 Asian Youth Games which is underway in Nanjing, China.

Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won gold in the girls’ 200m backstroke, clocking 2’12”65, exceeding Republic of Korea ‘s Im Dasol with 2’15”09.


Previously, Vien bagged a silver medal in the 100m backstroke event, just behind Korean rival Im Dasol.

Another gold medal went to Nguyen Thi Truc Mai in the women’s long jump event. She defeated strong rivals of China and Thailand to place first with achievement of 5m90.

Besides, Tran Thi Mai won a silver in the girls’ 3,000m steeplechase and Nguyen Thi Lan got another silver in the girls’ 100m hurdles. Truong Thi Kim Tuyen won bronze in the girls’ taekwondo under 47kg.


In tennis, Ly Hoang Nam advanced to the men’s singles semi-final, where he will meet unseeded rival Popko Dimitri of Kazakhstan .


Vietnam is currently at the 10th place on the medal tally with two golds, four silvers and one bronze.
