(VOV) – The 2013 Danang International Marathon Competition, slated for September 1, also marks Vietnam’s official entry into the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
Danang’s Municipal People’s Committee is steering the event, co-organised by its Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and World Marathon Inc.
Almost 3,400 athletes have alreay registered to run the race, including 385 international competitors from 25 countries and territories including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Republic of Korea, Australia, France, the UK, Japan, and Canada.
Danang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Deputy Director Nguyen Phuc Linh said all tournament preparations have been finalized and the city’s police forces are now focused on ensuring athlete safety and security.
Medical workers have been assigned to 14 aid stations along the 42km race route to render any emergency assistance that may be required. Five ambulances will regularly patrol the track.
The full and half marathon competitions will kick off at 5AM on September 1.
