Five persons have drowned and four are still reported missing in a boat collapse on August 2 in Can Gio territorial waters.

At 8.30pm on August 2, the boat with registration number H29-BP carrying 30 passengers moved from Go Cong Dong District in Tien Giang Province to Ba Ria Vung Tau Province. When the boat arrived in Can Gio District, it suddenly overturned and sank, due to fiercely strong waves.


Soon after the accident, rescue teams arrived at the scene and directed two boats to look for the remaining victims.


By nightfall of August 2, the rescue boats identified the location where the boat had sunk and rescued 21 people. Later, all the victims were transferred to Can Gio Hospital.

On August 3, Mr. Dinh La Thang, Minister of Transport, arrived on the scene and directed the authorities to a further search.


Ms.Vo Thi Dung, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee visited the victims in the hospital. She also asked the HCMC Military Command to continue to look for the remaining unfortunate victims.
