Viet Nam’s badminton ace, Nguyen Tien Minh, made light work of the first round by brushing aside Joe Wu in straight sets at the world badminton championships.

At the TianHe Indoor Gymnasium in Guangzhou, China, Viet Nam’s No 1 badminton player, and the tournament’s No 7 seed, crushed New Zealand’s unseeded Wu, 21-8, 21-11 in only 27 minutes.

The 30-year-old will next take on Dieter Domke of Germany in the second round. Despite having never played against Domke, Minh is expected to have a tough time against the No 64 ranked.

Minh is Viet Nam’s only representative at the word’s biggest badminton stage that also features the world’s top players like Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia and Lin Dan of China.-VNS
