HA NOI (VNS)— President Truong Tan Sang has sent a letter to Vietnamese students who attended international Olympiads this year, applauding their outstanding performance at the competitions.
In his letter, President Sang reserved special praise for the six students who brought home three gold medals and three silvers from the 54th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) that took place from July 18-28 in Columbia. The Vietnamese team finished seventh overall, up two places from last year.
The President highlighted the fact that Viet Nam’s representatives have been in the top ten at 26 out of the 37 IMOs teams who have attended.
“Your accomplishments as well as those recorded by Vietnamese students at other international Olympiads have proven Vietnamese brain power which we will need to push our country forward to be on a par with world powers,” he said.
Earlier this year, four students who competed at the 45th International Chemistry Olympiad in Russia brought home one gold and three silvers while all four students who attended the 24th International Biology Olympiad in Switzerland claimed silver medals.
Vietnamese students also won two golds, one silver and two bronzes at the 2013 International Physics Olympiad in Denmark, and two silvers and two bronzes at the 2013 International Olympiad in Informatics.-VNS
