Arsenal Coach Arsene Wenger kept his promise to invite Vietnamese Running Man, Vu Xuan Tien, to the Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal Football Club, which has done wonders for the team’s image in Asia.
In the UK, the image of Tien, running around the Emirates Stadium, wearing the National Flag and meeting Arsenal stars, helped to promote Vietnam to the world. He left a good impression on English people.
Tien also received compliments from top Coach Arsene Wenger as well as the whole Arsenal team. He is the first Vietnamese person that Arsenal has ever invited to the Emirates Stadium to see one of its matches
It is undeniable that inviting Tien to the UK was a great way for Arsenal to indicate its appreciation to him for his crazy love for the team, but in addition this serves as a logical PR move for the Arsenal trademark.
Besides Vietnam, the appearance of The Running Man helped to sharply increase Arsenal’s Asian fan base to over eight million, creating a ‘fever of love’ for the team, not only in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia but also in China and Japan.
Being an economist, Arsene Wenger’s decisions cannot be disputed as being beneficial to his team.
Nonetheless, the arrival of Vu Xuan Tien caused outrage for fans of Manchester United, and Chelsea. On a Twitter account named John McCarthy, an MU fan, said, “Don’t think that your creation, Running Man, is going to help you (Arsenal FC) in the Prem league. I am sure that our team will have a much stronger influence on its own.”
Vu Xuan Tien, now dubbed The Running Man, chased the team bus for around 5km, evading traffic, and other obstacles, to stay within sight of the players when the team came to Vietnam for the friendly match in July.
