The northern province of Thai Binh has invested a total of VND4.3 trillion ($203.345 million) in agriculture since 2009. The province targets having 70 communes meet 19 new rural criteria. In addition, it hopes to have 90 per cent of rural residents using clean water by 2015. An annual average agricultural growth rate of 4.3 per cent is also targeted.

Eight dirty hydro-power plants to be removed
The People’s Committee of the southern province of Binh Phuoc has asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to remove eight small- and medium-sized hydro-power projects in the province because of their economic inefficiency and impact on the environment.

VN exports to Germany rise by 22.4 per cent
Bilateral trade between Viet Nam and Germany reached $3.695 billion in the first half of the year, a jump of 29.5 per cent year-on-year.
Of the amount, exports from Viet Nam to Germany reached $2.352 billion, a rise of 22.4 per cent year-on-year, which accounts for 18 per cent of the country’s total exports to the EU.

Swiss agency helps poor to access markets
The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in coordination with Viet Nam on Wednesday kicked off the Switzerland-funded Market Access for the Rural Poor programme worth US$5.25 million.
The programme aims to help poor households join agricultural value chains. It will be carried out in 10 provinces in Viet Nam, one in Laos, and one in Myanmar until 2016.
