The fire occurred on September 15 at Hai Duong Trade Center has made 536 small trading households fall into difficult circumstances.
Small gifts, great meaning
These days, people have uninterruptedly visited and encouraged married couple Bui Manh Dong and Nguyen Thi Hai Giang at their house in Tien Phong street, Quang Trung ward (Hai Duong city).
His family’s goods, including sport tools and equipment, worth over VND500 million in a kiosk on the first floor were totally destroyed by the past fire at the trade center.
Knowing the situation, the provincial Military Command (where Dong is working) has supported his family with VND3 million deducted from the Fund “Love and gratitude to comrades”.
Officers and soldiers of the Advisory Division also mobilized, collected over VND10 million to share the difficulty with their comrade.
Nguyen Thi Thuy in Le Thanh Nghi ward (Hai Duong city) always cared about shopping to prepare the Mid-Autumn Festival for her two children. This year, because the terrible fire burnt the family’s kiosk down, she did not think about buying any gifts for her children.
Thus, the amount of money the Department of Labor, War Invalids, and Social Affairs has given to children of small traders suffering losses (VND200,000/ child) became very meaningful to Thuy and her children.
Multiplying benevolent hearts
In the spirit of “mutual affection and love”, many agencies, units, collectives, and benefactors have mobilized, subscribed, and given support of billions of dong to partly share losses and difficulties with the small traders.
Several units have presented Mid-Autumn gifts to children of small traders suffering losses in the fire

Many banks have also made donations to share difficulties with the small traders.
To the end of September 20, credit institutions in the province assisted the small traders doing business in Hai Duong Trade Center with over VND3 billion. Of which the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) donated VND1 billion, Hai Duong branch of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) VND700 million, Hai Duong Branch of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) VND500 million, Oceanbank VND100 million, other credit institutions VND615 million.
Officers and workers of the credit institutions also gave support of 550 Mid-Autumn gifts worth a total of VND38.7 million to the small traders’ children.
Credit institutions in the area have given direct support of VND129 million to customers with outstanding debts at the units.
Agribank’s branch in Hai Duong also implemented a program of lending a credit package worth VND50 billion at an annual interest rate of 7% for the small traders to continue their business, etc.
The Steering Board for remedying consequences of the fire at the trade center on September 21 gave support of VND6 million to 46 out of 53 families in the streets of Mac Thi Buoi and Thong Nhat and the area behind the trade center having to evacuate. The steering board is considering the seven remaining households who only hire houses near the trade center as coming from other areas. |
